MAJAC - Moisture Measurement & Control for Cotton opening lines
|
|
Streat Instruments, in conjunction with a number of research and industry partners, has developed a system to accurately measure and control the moisture in the cotton fibre at the laydown stage of cotton processing.
Implementation of the Streat MAJAC system offers processors significant benefits including:
- Higher yields (through reduced waste, less spinnable fibres in the waste etc)
- Improved yarn quality
- Improved yarn evenness
- Reduced short fibre content
- Improved yarn strength

The System
The Streat Moisture Meter uses a unique adaptation of the conductivity principle and advanced processing techniques to provide immediate, accurate and non-destructive measurement of product moisture content.
- Multiple calibrations are available for different product types.
- Precision spray application to ensure accurate and even spray application from 0% addition to the maximum level required for each application.
- Simple to use Controller with 'recipe' functions for different product types.

System Operation
The Moisture Meter continuously measures product moisture.
The integrated Moisture Controller compares the actual product moisture with the desired level (as entered by the operator) and sends a control signal to the Moisture Spray Control unit.
The Moisture Control unit accurately controls the moisture spray applied to the product.

|
By ensuring the moisture content of the fibre being fed into the opening system is consistent, opening machinery can be optimised to ensure optimum product quality and consistency is obtained.
By controlling the moisture of the cotton fibre at the laydown to a consistent level at around 7.5% the fibre becomes more resilient, more pliable, and has higher tensile strength. These properties lead to significantly improved processing.
